Neurological Resuscitation

For patients resuscitated from cardiac arrest, brain injury is a leading cause of death and long-term disability.  The Post-Cardiac Arrest Service has pioneered or participated in multiple projects that test innovative strategies for neuroresuscitation that aim to minimize the risk of brain injury and increase the likelihood and quality of recovery.  Recently completed trials include a randomized controlled trial of inhaled nitric oxide for neuroprotection (NCT03079102).  We are a top enrolling site in the ongoing ICECAP trial (NCT04217551), which seeks to identify the optimal duration of hypothermic temperature control.  Observational work by our group has tested the efficacy of antiseizure medications after cardiac arrest, tested invasive and non-invasive neuromonitoring to guide precision medicine, and explored heterogeneity of treatment responsiveness.
